Week(s) in Review: October 7th to 19th, 2011

Chag Sameach… again!  We didn’t want our Weekly Readers to go another whole ten days without another Weekly Edition, since we have more holidays coming up at the end of this week.  So, here is our Special Holidays Weekly Edition!

It has been a very busy Sukkot, both in Boulder and in Israel.  Much of the world was abuzz during the last 48 hours as the prisoner swap for Gilad Shalit came and went, bringing the 25-year-old Israeli soldier back home after 5 1/2 years of captivity in the hands of Hamas in Gaza.

In Boulder, there have been a slew of Sukkot-related activities — so many stories, in fact, that we pulled them together under a “Holidays” heading below.  Meanwhile, Thursday night marks the beginning of  Simchat Torah… most synagogues in town are hosting a celebration of the end of one Torah-reading cycle and the beginning of the next.  If you need to find one, check out the Synagogue and Communities directory.

Meanwhile, we will again be quietly observing Shemini Atzeret and Simchat Torah, and then Shabbat Bereisheet… so we’ll be “back in touch” next week.  Have a safe and joyous holiday and Shabbat!

About Editor

I'm David Fellows, and I've served as a writer, photographer and/or an editor on my junior high and high school newspapers; the Daily Trojan at USC (where I earned my journalism degree); the student newspaper at the Anderson School at UCLA (where I earned my MBA); and I've written and edited countless business documents and presentations in the ensuing twenty years. I was also a professional photographer from 1978 to 1988 (although you never really stop...). I've been involved Jewishly since my bris and in Boulder since 1995. I'm married to my Executive Director Cheryl, and we have two children, Lauren and Ethan.
