Week in Review: May 20th, 2011

Shabbat shalom! Anyone starting on an ark? We love the rain but a little moderation would be nice!

This week Boulder Jewish News had a bit of an international flavor. Many thanks to contributors Bruce Shaffer and Rabbi Marc Soloway and to the readers whose comments help continue the conversation.

Locally, the Boulder startup (tech) community hosted Boulder Startup Week, several days of meetups, discussions, outdoor activities (hmm) and events. The Boulder Jewish community didn’t miss out – the Boulder JCC, ADL, and your local Jewish News cosponsored Jews, Brews and Startup Gurus – happy hour and networking for MOTT (and those who love them!).

In national news, the President hosted The Maccabeats as part of the celebration for Jewish American Heritage Month. . .and then had some interesting remarks in his address about the middle east. With the national AIPAC conference just about to get started, we look forward to guest opinions and reactions.

Finally, a reader shared this info:  Comcast and the USC Shoah Foundation Institute have launched the “Days of Remembrance” series of  ten award-winning documentary films about the Holocaust available free through Comcast’s On Demand, XfinityTV.com and Xfinity TV iPad App Platforms. This may only be available for a few days longer, but Comcast subscribers may want to try this link to the list of films. Thank you for passing along the information!

This weekend marks Lag B’Omer. If it dries up/out enough to get the BBQ going, enjoy!

About Editor

I'm David Fellows, and I've served as a writer, photographer and/or an editor on my junior high and high school newspapers; the Daily Trojan at USC (where I earned my journalism degree); the student newspaper at the Anderson School at UCLA (where I earned my MBA); and I've written and edited countless business documents and presentations in the ensuing twenty years. I was also a professional photographer from 1978 to 1988 (although you never really stop...). I've been involved Jewishly since my bris and in Boulder since 1995. I'm married to my Executive Director Cheryl, and we have two children, Lauren and Ethan.
