Where did all this violence originate? The question hangs,
a dark smoke ring in the air,
polluting our sunshine sky.
Perhaps it has always been there, but
has grown in magnitude like inflation, year after year, a growing thing hardly noticed, until the price is just too high.
But there is also the culture of violence that can be started by one man who is in power, who has charisma, but has no conscience.
It can be raised by people who are either violent themselves, or just don’t care.
Added to race, culture, and religion,
violence becomes horribly evil, as if it wasn’t to begin with, and this awful thing is felt through the wind, flying
across the world while swallowing up
trust and love. Making us
lock our doors, shut out a friendly conversation, and fear our neighbors.
With sympathy we regard each community who has had such sorrow.
With sympathy we comfort each other, for our empathy know no borders.
Caring becomes a comforter
which we lie under together.
