The Waiting Is The Hardest Part

The Waiting Is The Hardest Part

The waiting is the hardest part.”

  – Tom Petty, z’’l

The waiting for “the deal.” It’s excruciating, and it’s taking a toll as nerves fray and emotions run wild. A few colleagues in the daily Hostages struggle in Jerusalem are seriously suffering.  It’s the longest yard, as groundhog day digs in deeper. Locally, personal records for number of times per day checking “breaking news” are shattering, only to hear “this-one-says-that” vs “that-one-says-this”and the ad nauseum Bibi Biden Trump kavod contest. But it does seem to be trending positive, B’’H.

Friday, I’m going to go see my son for a few days. I’m looking forward to some father/son time and a mental health boost. Yet, come Sunday morning, I know I’ll be seeking out the NYC RunForTheirLives group in Central Park. After all, my own symptoms (cliche posing as prose, inattentiveness, silly putty of the brain) are trivial, and we are not yet in ‘Brought Them Home Then’, territory.

Friends, please keep the pedal to the metal (oops) in support for the Hostages & families. We’re still with them and they still know it (see the Matan Zangkauker video) and we are obligated to see this through. Consider this, from Run4TheirLives – Boulder founder Rachel Amaru:

“I just returned from a visit to Buenos Aires where I saw a very intense exhibit by an Israeli artist that drew explicit parallels between the “missing” in Argentina and the 100 hostages still remaining in Gaza. … [T]he artist displayed a table set for the hostages, and on the walls surrounding the rooms were photos and paintings of Argentinian families holding up signs displaying pictures of their loved ones who went “missing” between 1976-1983. According to the International Commission on Missing Persons (ICMP), anywhere from 15,000-30,000 were killed by the regime. Every Thursday in Buenos Aires, mothers and grandmothers still gather in the Plaza de Mayor and walk to call attention to their family member’s plight. They have been doing this since 1977.”

We can draw inspiration from those mothers and grandmothers. (See also Jerusalem’s Mishmeret 101 movement.) Our walk this week is dedicated to the ten Israelis with connections to Argentina who are still held in Gaza.
