Relief, Reflection, and Gratitude: The Living Hostages Are Home

Relief, Reflection, and Gratitude: The Living Hostages Are Home

We join communities around the world in profound relief and gratitude as the remaining hostages begin their journey home. After two long years since the October 7 attack, two years where time seemed suspended in grief and uncertainty, this breakthrough marks a decisive turning point. But this is only the beginning, and the path to healing will take time.

We celebrate the reunions that are now unfolding and honor the strength of the families who never stopped fighting for their loved ones’ return. Through courage, perseverance, and faith, what once felt like a distant hope has become reality. We are grateful for the work of President Trump and the negotiation teams who worked to bring them home. We also continue to await the return of the remaining hostages who are no longer living, so their families may finally have the chance to lay them to rest.

Even as we rejoice, we hold space for the heartbreak that remains. The ceasefire brings hope that this devastating war, which has claimed far too many innocent Israeli and Palestinian lives, may finally be coming to an end. Yet the grief and trauma endured by so many cannot be measured or easily overcome.

We now begin the process of healing and rebuilding in Israel, Gaza, and across the world. The hostages and their families will need time and care as they return home. Our community too, will need compassion and connection to move forward. The Boulder JCC remains, as always, a home for reflection, strength, and support, a place to process these events and emotions together.

Over these past two years, our community has shown extraordinary resilience. The participation at community gatherings, vigils, and the weekly walks organized by Boulder Run for Their Lives, and Run for Their Lives chapters around the world, have ensured the hostages were never forgotten. That same spirit will guide us as we move towards healing and renewal.

As we give thanks for those returning home, may we continue to draw strength from one another and work toward a future of peace and renewal.

With relief and gratitude,

Jonathan Lev, Executive Director
David Paul, Boulder JCC Board Chair
