Since the introduction of home DNA testing kits, people have been discovering ancestry and culture they didn’t know they were a part of. The results of these tests are sending people on a journey, both emotional and physical, to discover those connections and how they shape us. This high tech access is far in the future in the world inhabited by the characters in Mary Morris’s best selling book Gateway to the Moon.
In her work of historical fiction, Morris tells the story of the migration of Jews escaping the Spanish Inquisition and their journey to the New World. Her prose alternates chapters between a family in New Mexico struggling to find their place in the world and the pain and suffering of Jews fleeing persecution. Morris will talk about her inspiration to start this historic exploration and the research that went into her book. Everyone, even if you haven’t read the book, is invited to join us.
