Freedom’s Gifts — and Responsibilities

Freedom’s Gifts — and Responsibilities

Freedom’s Gifts — and ResponsibilitiesFreedom is a gift and a responsibility. I wanted to share some of my thoughts with you from this holiday weekend celebrating our independence as nation. I had the privilege of spending the weekend in Rocky Mountain National Park.

Our nation’s government created the National Park System across the country to protect our beautiful land and insure that all people could enjoy it. I believe that our government had the incredible vision to protect our people’s freedom to enjoy the land by being responsible to set up the park system.  This is only one slice of the freedom we enjoy – the land and our environment – but it reminds us of the responsibility that comes with freedom.

Where else can we insure true freedom for all by being responsible to protect all people’s pursuit of happiness as our constitution states? New York just legalized gay marriage. That leaves at least 40 more states, as well as the national government, needing to take action to equalize all people and their lifestyles. Isn’t it unconstitutional to dictate who someone can love and live with? As you think about the gifts of freedom, spend some time thinking  about the responsibility of freedom as well and what you are willing to stand up and be responsible for. 235 years ago, what responsibility did our forefathers feel for creating a country of freedom for all? How can we continue to create that incredible vision? Let me know what you choose to take on.

Blessings, Deb
