Dear editor:
If only Palestinians were working toward living the American dream–building better lives for their children, having a country of their own where they could speak freely and participate in free and fair elections, and co-existing, peacefully, with their neighbors– what a wonderful world it would be.
Unfortunately, Palestinian leaders, following in the footsteps of Arab leaders in the 1940’s, have shown more interest in destroying the world’s only Jewish State than in improving the lives of the Arabs who began calling themselves “Palestinians” when the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) was created in 1964. The PLO Charter stated that the organization made no claim to lands then held by Egypt and Jordan; the PLO’s aim was the “liberation” of the portions of the Jews’ ancestral homeland then held by Israel!
While Israel absorbed and uplifted 800,000 Mizrachi Jews driiven from their homes in the Muslim countries of the Middle East and North Africa, The Arab League told its member nations to deny citizenship to between 400,000 and 700,000 Arabs who had left Palestine, or had been displaced, during Arab-initiated fighting; the ban on citizenship was also placed on their descendants.
In contrast, descendants of the Mizrachi Jews taken in by Israel comprise the majority of Israel’s current Jewish population. Every post in Israeli governance, except Prime Minister, has been filled, at one time or another, by someone with roots in the Mizrachi communities.
Of the 6.000.000 “Palestine refugees” now on UNRWA’s rolls, no more than 30,000 ever lived in Palestine. They have been told they will remain in refugee limbo until Israel is forced to give them the homes the “refugees” claim their parents, grandparents, great-grandparents,… lost when Israel declared independence. But the sheer number of “refugees” and the fact that they have been taught that killing Jews is a Muslim’s ticket to Heaven makes it very unlikely that Israel would ever take them in. As Prime Minister Netanyahu said: Israel withdrew from Gaza but Hamas made no effort to build a Palestinian state; Hamas turned Gaza into a launching pad for attacks on Israel, using the Palestinians in Gaza as human shields.
