Letter: Research May Alleviate Fears

Dear editor:

It seems to me that Adam Eisenberg is suffering from Woke delusions which classify every group as either “persecuted” or “persecuting” and which claim that, in every dispute, the “persecutors” are always in the wrong and the “persecuted” are always “innocent victims.” (“Opinion: I’m a Jew, and I’m Scared” Boulder Jewish News 12/11/2025) The missing pieces to the puzzle: who makes the assignments to each group and can the assigners really prove that each person in either group always follows the diktats of his or her assignment? Having been raised on tales of Talmudic argumentation and statements like “two Jews, three opinions”, I have to conclude that Jews are not likely to conform to Woke expectations.

As a retired academic, I urge Mr. Eisenberg to do some investigation into the matters that are troubling him. I suggest that he begin by reading the papers of Major (ret.) John Spencer, head of Urban Warfare Studies in West Point’s Modern Warfare Institute. Major Spencer notes that, in working to prevent Hamas from fulfilling its vows to inflict 1,000 October 7’s on Israelis, the IDF (Israel Defense Forces) achieved an extremely low ratio of civilian deaths to combatant deaths (1.5:1) for combat in a densely populated area where Hamas had deliberately embedded its fortifications amid the Gazan populace, guaranteeing that the IDF’s exemplary efforts to avoid civilian casualties would have to be less than 100% effective.

Mr. Eisenberg should also review articles questioning the numbers of casualties reported by Hamas’ Ministry of Health, statistical data indicating that the population in Gaza actually increased during the war, and articles implicating Hamas’ involvement in creating food shortages in Gaza.
