Letter: No One Should Be Surprised That Hamas Broke the Ceasefire

Dear editor:

Probably no one is surprised that, just as Bruce Ticker predicted, Hamas has already broken the ceasefire that President Trump hoped would be the beginning of true peace between Israel and her neighbors. (“When Hell Freezes Over…er, When Hamas Disarms” boulderjewishnews.org 10.16.25) No doubt, Hamas views the agreement as the usual “hudna,” a temporary slowing of the fighting, during which its fighters could get some rest and then return to Hamas’.real goal — destroying the nation-state of the Jews.

President Trump has again stated that Hamas would be disarmed if the terror group fails to disarm voluntarily. He hasn’t specified how that would be accomplished, whether by sending US troops to Gaza, urging Qatar to evict Hamas leaders it has been sheltering if they refuse to tell the fighters to lay down their arms, or working with Israel to develop strategies for disarming Hamas’ fighters (similar to the exploding pagers that were effective in breaking Hezbollah’s control over Lebanon).

The US has already sent Israel the equipment that would be needed to destroy Hamas’ network of terror tunnels when conditions on the ground would make that feasible.

Bruce Ticker critiques modern psychologists' political advocacy at conventions, particularly relating to Palestinian liberation, while expressing concern over the lack of acknowledgment for Jewish issues and rising antisemitism within the profession.
