Boulder Star To Be Lit Tonight in Response to the June 1 Attack on Downtown Boulder

Lighting represents the strength, unity and resilience of the Boulder community

The City of Boulder, in partnership with the Boulder Chamber, will light the Boulder Star tonight, Monday, June 2, through Sunday, June 8, in solidarity with our community. The lighting is meant to represent the strength, unity and resilience of the Boulder community.

“Tonight, we light the Boulder Star as a way to demonstrate support for our community, and to unite in the grief we are feeling right now,” said City of Boulder City Manager Nuria Rivera-Vandermyde. “The star represents hope, and it is my deep hope that its light will bring togetherness to our community during a time of mourning.”

“We light the Boulder Star in recognition of the reverence our community holds for its symbol of unity, strength and resilience during our periods of greatest difficulty,” said Boulder Chamber President & CEO John Tayer. “The solidarity we share in our condemnation of this horrific targeted attack against members of our Jewish community and our concern for their well-being is reflected in the bright glow of our Boulder Star, a glowing beacon that stands as the further statement of our resolve to resist bigotry and hatred in all its forms.”

2025 marks the 78th anniversary of the Boulder Star on Flagstaff Mountain. The Boulder Star is typically lit annually to commemorate the winter holidays. It has also been lit to help bring the community together to heal in the wake of the mass shooting at King Soopers and the COVID-19 pandemic.
