Boulder Jewish News welcomes a new advertiser this month, “Ali Roth Writes.” Ali is one of LinkedIn’s top resume writers and is a recent transplant to Boulder. From her LinkedIn profile: “Empowering professionals by leveraging their career achievements to attract their ideal job…. As a Psychotherapist, impassioned wordsmith and consummate brand strategist, I approach every resume client with the goal of unearthing the singular combination of experience, expertise, heart and soul that distinguishes you in the mind of a future employer.”
We checked in with Ali to find out a little more about her and her resume-writing business.
1. How did you come upon this interesting specialty?
I’ve always been a writer. While training to be a therapist I started a company called “ShrinkWrap, Websites Even Freud Would Envy” where I branded therapists and built them websites. I wrote all the website copy and designed the sites. Writing resumes has always been a side hustle and when I closed ShrinkWrap after 11 years, I wanted to lighten my load. Instead of running a company, I applied to and got hired by the top resume company where I learned the tricks of the trade. When I outgrew that position, I decided to hang a shingle and start my own company and since then have become one of LinkedIn’s top resume writers. I’ve worked for every kind of client in every industry from Physicians, to Captains of Industry, Marketing, IT, Therapists and beyond. I like working with creative types who have been in therapy and know who they are.
2. Who has more trouble writing their resume/profile – men, or women? Who is more likely to engage you for help?
It’s a good question. Women often go deeper with me, but overall the clients I attract are ready for a professional transformation. Please check out my LinkedIn profile to review my 63 stellar client recommendations: www.linkedin.com/in/aliroth/.
3. What’s the one pandemic habit you are likely to carry over into post-pandemic?
I’ve become a voracious reader and just formed a book club.
4. I see you have a 310-area-code phone number. LA vs. Boulder — Go!
Sorry but LA is my home and I’m so over cold weather and snow in May! I am having a great time this summer being outside hiking or walking with friends.
Bonus: Latkes or Hamantaschen?
Latkes every day.
