Dear editor:
I am writing to expand on Bruce Ticker’s article discussing the media’s anti-Israel bias. (“Column: The Anti-Israel Evil That News Editors Do” boulderjewishnews.org January 16, 2025) I have included links to several articles to give BJN readers an opportunity to read the truth about Israel.

Giulio Meotti notes problems with casualty figures reported by Hamas’ Ministry of Health. It’s not only that the Ministry doesn’t distinguish between civilians and combatants – it counts teenage fighters as children, depicts the population of Gaza as severely lacking in adult males, and includes people who died of natural causes on its list of the war dead. As previously noted by military experts, Major John Spencer and Colonel Richard Kemp, Meotti also praises Israel’s efforts and success in maintaining a much lower ratio of civilian deaths to combatant deaths than is usually seen during fighting in crowded urban areas.

Gil Hoffman, executive director of pro-Israel media Watchdog, Honest Reporting, shares thoughts on fighting misinformation on social media. He wonders whether replacing fact checking with notes submitted by the readers will be an effective way of eliminating biased opinions. This is especially important in light of the widespread anti-Zionism/antisemitism in today’s “Woke” society. Pro-Israel comments may not receive sufficient votes to be included on many popular social media platforms.
Jack Lew, US ambassador to Israel during the Biden administration, discovered that a report on possible famine in northern Gaza was based on incorrect data on the number of people living in the area under study. Israel, which withdrew all Israeli security and civilian personnel from Gaza in 2005, is still considered “the occupying party” and, as such, is held to be responsible for meeting the needs of the people despite the fact Israel was attacked when Hamas broke a ceasefire agreement on October 7, 2023.
