Celebrate Israel This Week at the Boulder JCC

This week marks both the anniversary of Israel’s founding in 1948 and Israel’s memorial day for those lost in Israel’s wars and victims of terrorism. Yom HaZikaron, Day of Remembrance, begins in the evening of Monday, April 24 through the evening of Tuesday, April 25. In Israel the day is observed through a country wide moment of silence, ceremonies in community centers, and at cemeteries.

The Boulder JCC, partnering with the Israel American Council (IAC), will host a community gathering for Yom HaZikaron on Monday, April 24 from 7-9 pm. This moving and meaningful event will use songs and personal stories to show gratitude, respect, and to celebrate the lives of those lost. Traditions of ceremonies and public sing-alongs are a common practice in Israel on Yom HaZikaron, stretching back to the early 20th century with the first waves of Jewish immigrants, and will take place at this celebration. Everyone is invited to attend. Advance registration is always recommended, click here

As Yom Hazikaron comes to end on Tuesday at sunset, Yom HaAtazmaut, Israel’s Independence Day begins. In Israel, Yom HaAtazmaut is celebrated with fireworks, picnics, and Israeli dancing. The Boulder JCC welcomes the community to celebrate Yom Ha’atzmaut on Wednesday, April 26 from 4 – 6:30 pm with an outdoor concert, picnic, and engaging activities for all ages. Eyal Rivlin and the IsraGroove band will be performing the greatest hits of Israeli music and everyone is encouraged to dance and sing along.
