This spring semester, students at Front Range Community College–Boulder County Campus in Longmont participated in a service learning project, Reconstructing the Past, designed to recognize and honor female elders in the Jewish community. Students from three different classes — Women in American History, Women’s Sexuality, and Jewelry Making — came together to conduct interviews, write essays and create an art project. Boulder JFS recruited many of the Jewish women for this project.
Twelve elder Jewish women were interviewed and the students told their stories in essays and graphic novel story boards. You can see the students’ displays at The Darkroom, 515 Main Street in Longmont until April 23. The women featured include: Rabbi Deborah Bronstein, Paula Burger, Nancy Elliott, Paula Erez, Haya Gartner, Janet Heimer, Judy Kaplan, Rosalyn Kirkel, Estelle Miller, Ruth Seagull, Eve Bat Shalom, and Barb Steinmetz.
