Dr. Sallyann Amdur Sack-Pikus, PhD comes to Colorado for a one-day seminar including four lectures on doing Jewish genealogy. Don’t miss this unique opportunity to get started or restarted researching your family history!
The Jewish Genealogy Society of Colorado (JGSCO) is a nonprofit group of over 150 enthusiasts run by volunteers. Meetings are held in Boulder and in Denver from September to June and feature experts sharing knowledge on how to get started or how to continue doing Jewish family history research. Most lectures are free of charge and last for an hour or so, but once a year each fall, JGSCO flies in an internationally recognized speaker to give 4 lectures in a single day. Now in its fourth year, JGSCO is honored to present prominent genealogist, Dr. Sallyann Amdur Sack-Pikus, PhD as the featured speaker at this year’s Annual All-Day Seminar on Jewish Genealogy.
Dr. Sack, as she is known to many, is a founding pioneer in the field of modern Jewish Genealogy. Among her many achievements in the field, she is journal editor and co-owner of Avotaynu: The International Review of Jewish Genealogy, and she is a founding director of the International Institute for Jewish Genealogy based in Israel.
Held this year on Sunday, October 13th from 9 am to 4 pm at the Denver Jewish Community Center, 350 S. Dahlia Street, the seminar is open to JGSCO members and to the general public. Four lectures are 1) The Centrality of Jewish Law, Jewish History and Jewish Customs, and the Larger World in Which Our Ancestors Lived; 2) What Every Jewish Genealogist Should Know About Names, Dates and Places; 3) What Makes Research in Israel So Important and How Do We Do It; and 4) Strategies for Surmounting Brick Walls – of which you can send your examples to be included by Sept. 27th to Sallyann at sallyannsack1@verizon.net.
Members of the local JGSCO gather at this annual seminar to share resources and success stories in between lectures, generous door prizes, and a kosher lunch included in the cost. It’s a great opportunity to ask tough research questions and find out about new resources while engaging with a welcoming local community who enjoys doing the same thing.
$18 in advance for JGSCO members. $40 for individuals new to the group which includes 15 months of membership in JGSCO. $60 for couples in the same household new to the group.
RSVP and payment is due by October 4th. All walk-ins or payment received after October 4th will be charged an additional $18 per person. Register and pay online HERE or mail payment to JGSCO, P.O. Box 2586, Littleton, CO 80161. More information at www.jgsco.org, info@jgsco.org, or (720) 221-6858.
