What is Jewish life like in Africa? What does Purim and Africa have in common? How does African food with a “Yiddishe Taam” taste? What is a drum café with a purim twist? What do African Parrots say on Purim?
Find out as Chabad of Boulder celebrates “Purim with a touch of Africa” with a feast, Purim drum café, parrot show and an honest to goodness Purim Party on Sunday, March 20 starting at 4 pm at the Jewish Enrichment Center, 4740 Table Mesa Drive Suite B.
Keeping with Chabad of Boulder’s annual tradition of Purim around the world, Chabad will be hosting its tenth annual “Purim around the world” celebration with an African theme. Following theme parties in France, Israel, Italy and China, Africa makes it more exotic. Chany Scheiner, coordinater of Purim in Africa, says, “While Africa sounds far out to some, in our family both our sons, Moishy and Mendy, have learned in South Africa.”
The planning committee looks forward to many old and new faces this year. Amongst some of the highlight of this year’s program are:
- Megillah Reading with New Purim Slide show featuring children in the Boulder Jewish community.
- Megillah Bingo
- African Drum Cafe by Peak Rhythms Inc.
- African food with “A Yiddishe Taam”
- Special Parrot show and hold live animals from the African jungle.
Suggested donation: $15 adults and $12 children maximum $36 per family. Sponsorship $180.
