Recently, JEWISHColorado sent out an alert regarding a resolution (https://wp-cpr.s3.amazonaws.com/uploads/2024/06/CDP20Resolution202024-06-04-1.pdf) to be voted on by the State Central Committee of the Colorado Democratic Party on July 1, 2024. They asked you to write to the party leadership and your state representative and senator to protest this resolution that is so biased towards support for the Palestinian Arabs. This is my letter:
I am rather shocked to read the resolution that the Colorado Democratic Party is set to vote on this July 1, 2004. First of all, the attack orchestrated by Hamas had members of other terrorist organization involved as well as Palestinian Arab civilians who took the opportunity afforded to murder Jews.
Secondly, the numbers you use for the extent of Palestinian Arab casualties does not differentiate between Hamas, Islamic Jihad, auxiliary fighters and civilians, not to mention that the numbers are provided by Hamas and that the numbers are disputed by experts in the field. Even the US Congress, by a majority bipartisan vote, calls the number to be without foundation.
As for children, it is well known that Hamas trains and uses children between 14 and 17 years of age as soldiers. Those between 14 and 17 are counted as children.
Another issue of contention is the statement regarding “Anti-Semitism, Islamophobia, and anti-Palestinian and anti-Arab bigotry hav[ing] risen significantly in Colorado.” What about anti-Israeli? There is no mention of the well documented anti-Israeli bigotry rising in Colorado.
While you mention the suffering among the Palestinian Arab population of Gaza, there is no mention of the suffering endured by the citizens of Israel, regardless of their nationality, driven from their homes by the rockets and missiles deliberately launched into population centers in northern Israel by Hamas, Islamic Jihad, and Hezbollah.
That the Israeli response to the 10/7 genocidal violence is disproportional has no bearing. Does the Colorado Democratic party consider our response to 9/11 disproportional? Did the party vote on such a resolution?
You condemn violence directed against Palestinian Arabs in the “west bank” but do not condemn violence directed against Israelis in Israel.
This resolution is poorly thought out. You must think again and propose a resolution that will have more meaning toward resolving the conflict and reflects the beliefs of the party, not just the loudest voices.
