Standing for Humanity in Gaza and Israel

Standing for Humanity in Gaza and Israel

On Wednesday, May 22 join the Boulder JCC for a staged reading of the play How to Remain a Humanist After a Massacre in 17 Steps. The haunting 20-minute play opens with two prologues set on the morning of October 7, 2023. Turning into a ‘how to’ course the screenplay takes the audience through maintaining humanity in the aftermath of barbarism; poignantly capturing the moment when everything changed for the people of Israel, Palestine/Gaza, and way beyond.

Setting the stage for crucial conversations about the world’s most combustible conflict and enforcing that essential reminder: ‘There are mothers on both sides.’ The play has been presented broadly in our area, generating intense, widespread word-of-mouth and a profound response.

After the reading, we will have a facilitated panel discussion with local journalists, educators, and political and faith leaders. As well as a reading of poetry by Palestinian writers Taha Muhammad Ali, and Refaat Alareer, who was killed in an IDF airstrike on December 6, 2023, days after the renowned poem “If I Must Die”.

If you would like to join the discussion, please pre-register for the event, on Wednesday, May 22 at 6:45 pm on the Boulder JCC website. Tickets are $10 in advance and $18 at the door. If you have problems registering or questions, please contact Acy Jackson at acy.jackson@boulderjcc.org.
