DENVER, CO – April 26, 2015 JEWISHcolorado has opened a Nepal Emergency Fund in response to the devastating 7.8-magnitude earthquake that hit the Kathmandu Valley on Saturday, April 25th. The death toll is over 2,500 and rising, including several Americans who were on Everest climbing expeditions.
Thousands of people are stranded and must withstand freezing temperatures, other are still trapped inside collapsed or damaged buildings, ancient historic sites and temples were destroyed and areas of the capital Kathmandu have been reduced to rubble.
The people of Nepal need our help.
And during this tragedy, as members of the Jewish community, it is our collective responsibility to reach out and help repair the world. Tikkun Olam. Which is why JEWISHcolorado is reaching out to members of the Colorado Jewish community.
As emergency reponse units are deployed from all over the world, including Israel, the urgent nature of the situation is becoming inherently clearer. Hospitals are running out of medical supplies as they are struggling to keep up with the number of injuries and fatalities. Officials in the impoverished country of approximately 28 million people are urging us to send aid.
JEWISHcolorado has set up the Nepal Emergency Fund to provide immediate assistance to earthquake survivors and the families. 100% of all donations will be distributed to our network of overseas partners. JEWISHcolorado will absorb all administrative costs.
