Ignite Chanukah and ChanuConcert Inspire New Children’s Book

Former Boulder JCC employee Michael Rosenzweig has written a new children’s Chanukah book, called David the Dreidel. David the Dreidel is a whimsical story of a dreidel that magically comes to life and spreads Chanukah cheer to his community. Set to the tune of Frosty the Snowman, this book can be read, sung, and enjoyed by all! 

During Michael’s time at the J, from 2011 – 2018, he helped grow their young professional group, designed their inaugural Cherryvale Day Camp program, and served as Marketing Director. It was Ignite Chanukah, a young professional’s TED Talk-style Chanukah party, that served as the catalyst for this book.

The first year Michael was in charge of the Ignite Chanukah party, he started the festivities singing a song dressed in an adult-sized dreidel costume. This costume took on a life of its own, making appearances at the Boulder JCC preschool, Chanukah concert, and at community events like Chanukah on Ice. If you dig deep, you can find the JCC Executive Director, Jonathan Lev, and a few other community members sporting the costume once or twice as well!

The former community concierge states, “seeing how the children would light up pure excitement when a larger-than-life dreidel stepped into the room was magical! My hope is that this book captures that sentiment.”

Michael recently launched an Indiegogo campaign to fund the inaugural publishing of this book. In addition to copies of the book, there are stickers and greeting cards available. Michael is also hoping to donate 100s of copies to local JCCs and Jewish preschools across the country through the “Get a Book – Gift a Book” package.
