Give Blood, Give Life: Your 10 Minutes Can Save Three Lives

Give Blood, Give Life: Your 10 Minutes Can Save Three Lives

Every two seconds, someone in the U.S. needs a blood transfusion. Whether it’s a newborn in intensive care, a neighbor undergoing cancer treatment, or a victim of a sudden accident, the need is constant—and the source is unique. Because blood cannot be manufactured, the only way a patient receives it is through the generosity of people like you.

On Friday, April 17, the Vitalant Blood Mobile will be in our community. We are looking for heroes to step up and fill the donation chairs.

When you donate one pint of blood, you aren’t just giving a “unit”—you are giving a second chance at life. One donation can be separated into red cells, plasma, and platelets, potentially helping three different patients. The blood collected remains in the network to support over 900 hospitals nationwide, including those in our region. From supporting surgeries to helping patients manage chronic conditions like sickle cell disease, your blood is a literal lifeline.

Donating isn’t just a selfless act; it’s a “mini-checkup” for your own health. Every donor receives: We’ll check your pulse, blood pressure, temperature, and hemoglobin levels. Your cholesterol levels and blood type will be available in your secure Vitalant online donor account. By joining the Vitalant Donor Rewards program, you earn points for every donation, which you can redeem for gift cards from major retailers like Amazon, Target, and Starbucks.

Ready to make an impact? It takes only about an hour of your time, and the actual donation usually takes just 10 minutes.
