Each season we are privileged to present a series of stories that we want to share with the community right at this moment.
Each year we premiere titles that represent many genres, varying styles, and diverse moods. We always look for human dramas that authentically depict the Jewish experience throughout history and across cultures.
Our subjects this year indeed range across centuries and continents, with three feature films focused on Sephardic life.
Our full schedule will be announced at the end of August, with tickets on sale October 22.
Below are trailers to ten titles we are excited to share with you during the festival, which opens on Sunday, November 10 and closes on Sunday November 17.
In addition to these ten titles, the festival is proud to once again present a shorts program designed by Judith Dack and her committee.
New this year, the festival has created a community centerpiece, featuring a film selected by our newly formed program committee.
Here are topics we will be discussing at the talkbacks held after each screening.
- The restitution of Nazi-looted art in Europe today (“AUCTION“)
- Family Feuds, Moroccan style (“SEVEN BLESSINGS“)
- The universal urge to dance (“CALL ME DANCER“)
- The last vestiges of the Inquisition in 1858 Italy (“KIDNAPPED“)
- Jews who survived by working for the Nazis (“STELLA: A LIFE“)
- Memories of an Algerian childhood before exile (“THE BLOND BOY FROM THE CASBAH“)
- Olympic drama unfolds as history repeats itself (“ISRAEL SWINGS FOR THE GOLD“)
- Gaza in hindsight: An Israeli agent confronts his past (“TELLING NONIE“)
- The improbable epicenter of Jewish American culture – Yiddishkeit in the mountains (“THE CATSKILLS“)
- A German artist stumbles on an idea to honor victims of the Holocaust (“HERE LIVED“)
The Sephardic-themed closing night reception will be held in the Dairy Lobby on Sunday, November 17 from 5:30-6:30 pm.
