Cherryvale Day Camp Accepted for Prestigious Training Fellowship

Cherryvale Day Camp at the Boulder JCC has recently been accepted into the Cornerstone Fellowship offered by the Foundation for Jewish Camp (FJC).  FJC’s mission is to lead the Jewish camp field to adapt its successful, immersive learning experience to a rapidly changing world.

The Cornerstone Fellowship supports Jewish culture enhancement at camp by offering educational training and professional development to exemplary returning camp staff. This program is taking participants from Day Camps for the first time.  Returning counselors are the “cornerstones” of their camp, having spent time growing into their roles and delving into the mission of their camp community.

“We have several counselors who are energized and excited to work with kids in a camp environment,” said Boulder JCC  Youth, Camp and Teens Director, Julia Paeglis.  “This fellowship is an opportunity to engage them on a new level of training and leadership roles at Cherryvale.”

Cherryvale Day Camp at the Boulder JCC is for children ages 4 – 13.  The Camp offers outdoor activities and specialty programs. Our staff emphasizes and engages campers in discussions about the universal values of community, joy, care, respect, growth, and generosity. Children of all backgrounds, faiths, and families are welcome to participate.

A cohort of counselors and year-round staff from Cherryvale will participate in a week-long seminar with other camp professionals at Capital Camps & Retreat Center in Waynesboro, PA.  One exciting aspect of the program is a Cornerstone Faculty Advisor to work with each camp throughout the year.  This seasoned camp professional will make a visit to Cherryvale Day Camp this summer to support the work of the fellows and enhancements at camp.

The Cornerstone Fellowship is a program of the Foundation for Jewish Camp made possible by the generosity of the Crown Family Philanthropies, The Marcus Foundation, and The Morningstar Foundation.
