Upbeat Film, “Rock Camp,” Opens 2023 Boulder Jewish Film Festival

As with any gathering of Jews occurring post-October 7, a serious undertone was present during the Boulder Jewish Film Festival opening reception at the Dairy Arts Center tonight. The background situation was addressed by both Jonathan Lev, Executive Director of the Boulder JCC and Kathryn Bernheimer, Founding Director of the festival during their opening remarks.

However, the audience’s mood was lifted considerably during the screening of the first film in the Festival, “Rock Camp.” This documentary about David Fishof’s 25-year series of Rock and Roll Fantasy Camps was upbeat, and that wasn’t just the music. The interviews with Fishof, many of his famous rock musician camp counselors, and some of the recent attendees were charged with the joy of rock music — playing it and listening to it.

The Festival continues through November 12, and tickets to many films are still available.
