Announcing the Kickoff of Beth Ami’s Good Movie Club

Beth Ami Colorado Congregation for Humanistic Judaism is launching a movie club that will focus on provocative films that have a connection to Jewish and/or humanistic values.  When the pandemic is behind us, we may be able to watch the films together, but for the time being, we’ll watch the films on our own and then gather together for discussion. The films will be available online, either free or for a nominal rental fee.

Our first film is “Gentleman’s Agreement”, a 1947 film that explores antisemitism in American society. The protagonist is a journalist who takes an assignment to do a piece on anti-Semitism, and, in order to get an empathetic perspective, pretends to be a Jew. Directed by Elia Kazan and written by Laura Z. Hobson and Moss Hart, the film stars Gregory Peck, John Garfield (born Jacob Julius Garfinkle), Dorothy McGuire, and other well-known stars of the era. This picture won the Oscar as Best Picture of the Year.

2. Register via Meetup so that you’ll have the link that you’ll need to join us.
3. Then join us on Saturday, February 26 (6:00-7:30 pm) for a brief Havdallah service, followed by the discussion.
