“Wretches and Jabberers” Coming to Boulder

The amazing film “Wretches & Jabberers” will be shown 7 p.m. Thursday, March 21 at Congregation Har HaShem, and features a discussion led by Shelly Christensen.  This film will forever change anything you thought you knew about disabilities and the inner lives of those affected by them.

The movie is a documentary by Oscar-winning director Gerardine Wurzburg, and it follows the travels of two charismatic, passionate, funny, non-speaking autistic men, Larry Bissonnette, 53, and Tracy Thresher, 43, as they circle the globe to meet other autistic people who communicate by typing. Trapped in a world of non-communication for decades, one forced into an institution at age 8 (Larry) and the other into a resource room doing puzzles all day instead of school (Tracy), the world of these highly intelligent men came alive after they were taught to type. “It left me typeless,” Thresher said after viewing the film. Open to the public at no charge.
