Hundreds of community members braved cold and sometimes windy weather to celebrate nights 6 and 7 of Chanukah this week.
Chanukah on Pearl Monday night ultimately proved to be too windy to light more than one flame, but luckily the Boulder Center for Judaism was prepared with a smaller electric menorah to get the right number of lights lit. Gail Sloat and Adam Sloat, wife and son respectively of Jerry Sloat z”l, did the honors and led the crowd in singing the Chanukah prayers. In addition, Boulder Mayor Aaron Brockett, City Council Member Tara Winer, and Boulder’s U.S. Congressman, Joe Neguse, all spoke to welcome the participants and wish the community well. Rabbi Pesach Scheiner of the Boulder Center for Judaism gave a brief drash as well, and invited all the children (and children at heart) to gather beneath the Boulder Fire Department’s raised ladder to catch gelt raining from above. Here’s a link to our whole Pearl St. album. Music was provided by Josh Raderman and band.

Chanukah on Ice, Tuesday afternoon in Louisville, proved less windy and featured a more successful lighting of the Grand Menorah. Both Rabbi Scheiner and his daughter Fruma offered Chanukah wisdom to the assembled crowd. The menorah was lit by Rodney Weiss and music was provided by John Wood. Sufganiyot and hot chocolate were hits at both venues. Here is a link to our whole photo album for Chanukah on Ice.
