Baruch Dayan HaEmet – Jack Turgel z”l

Jack Turgel (Yaakov ben Shmuel halevi v’Chaya), father of Daniel Turgel, passed away Sunday, March 16, 2025.

Jack Turgel was born in 1940 in Montreal to Samuel and Claire “Chaika Turgel” and moved to Boston in 1969. He embodied the entrepreneurial spirit and Jewish ethics of justice, hard work and commitment to family. His infectious smile, quick wit and deep intellect endeared him to all of his family and friends. He was a beloved son, brother, father, uncle, grandfather, cousin and elder amidst a large extended family. 

Jack is remembered and mourned by his wife Cheryl, three sons and daughters-in-law Michael and Charla, Louis and Anna and Daniel and Shoshannah, seven grandchildren and many extended family members.

The funeral will be at 1pm eastern time in Massachussets tomorrow (Tuesday) and the family will be returning to Colorado on Wednedsay.

There will be Shiva gatherings this Wednesday from 6-8pm and Thursday from 4-8pm with services at 6.30pm both nights at the Turgel’s home, 516 W Spruce Way, Louisville, 80027

If you would like to contribute any food, please note that the Turgels are vegan and have a kosher home and some food has been ordered for the shiva house.  Also a meal train has been set up here for later.

About Rabbi Marc Soloway

Marc is a native of London, England where he was an actor and practitioner of complimentary medicine before training as a rabbi in London, Jerusalem and Los Angeles. He was ordained at the Ziegler School of Rabbinical Studies at the American Jewish University in 2004 and has been the the spiritual leader at Bonai Shalom in Boulder ever since. Marc was a close student of Rabbi Zalman Schechter Shalomi and received an additional smicha (rabbinic ordination) from him in 2014, just two months before he died. He has been the host and narrator of two documentary films shown on PBS; A Fire in the Forest: In Search of the Baal Shem Tov and Treasure under the Bridge: Pilgrimage to the Hasidic Masters of Ukraine. Marc is a graduate of the Institute of Jewish Spirituality, a fellow of Rabbis Without Borders, has traveled to Ghana in a rabbinic delegation with American Jewish World Service and co-chair of the Rabbinical Council and national board member of Hazon, which strives to create more sustainable Jewish communities. In 2015, Marc was among a group of 12 faith leaders honored at The White House as “Champions of Change” for work on the climate. Marc is a proud member of Beit Izim, Boulder’s Jewish goat milking co-op.
