I share Bruce Ticker’s concern about the future of Israel as the home of the Jewish people – the place where no Jew who needed to go there would ever be turned away.

It is cruel irony that Israelis are preparing to move to Germany or Poland where their parents or grandparents survived Hitler.

I must disagree with the members of the Rabbinic Council. The Israeli Supreme Court and the Knesset do not currently serve as a check and balance on each other. As things stand now, the Court is clearly in control.

There is a fight going on right now in Israel over boundaries – not the kind meant to keep people separated, but the kind meant to keep the government separated. In Israel, the only real checks and balances of government are between the Judicial branch and parliament.
