Judith Orloff z"l passed away on November 8, 2022. This is Rabbi Marc Soloway's eulogy.

Miriam Fields built her world with love, kindness, selflessness and care.  In fact for years, along with her friend Beverly Goodman, Miriam co-chaired Bonai Shalom’s Hesed committee, lovingly keeping in touch and caring for our congregational family when in need.  

Aishet chayil mi yimtza?  Who can find a woman of valor?  We found one in Dagmar Dayan, Devorah bat Tzvi David v’Tovah and we are grateful to have known her and pray that she rests in peace. 

Rabbi Marc Soloway offers some thoughts on the passing of Rabbi Lord Jonathan Sacks, z"l, former Chief Rabbi of the UK.

“Who is wealthy?” Asks Rabbi Ben Zoma in the 4th chapter of Pirkei Avot. “The one who is happy with their portion, with their lot”.

“Aizeh hu gibor? Who is strong?” asked Rabbi ben Zoma in Pirkei Avot, “hacoveysh et yiztro, the one who controls his passions.” Carl Herbet was physically strong, streetwise and a tough guy, but his nature was not tough.

In these frightening times where anti-Semitism and other forces of hate are alive and well in our world, we have an obligation to remember Doris Small, Devorah bat Moshe u’Miriam, and to tell her story, even though it’s no fairy tale.

Who here does not feel richer and a little more complete through knowing Irene Ilona Rosenschein, who has left the most extraordinary legacy to every single one of us whose lives she touched?
