Each year for over 20 years the Boulder Center for Judaism has lit a menorah for the community on the Pearl Street Mall. Each year a member of the community who has worked especially hard for Boulder’s Jews is asked to light that special community menorah and this year it is our pleasure to give that honor to Andy Franklin.

To many people in and outside of Boulder, Rabbi Zalman Schachter-Shalomi z"l was an enigma. The revered and beloved founder of the Jewish Renewal movement (a movement dedicated to gender equality and other progressive approaches to Judaism) and a Hassid, trained by some of the most well-regarded teachers in Lubavitch (one of the most conservative Orthodox sects in Judaism).

This year marks the 9th Yahrzeit, the anniversary of the passing, of Rabbi Zalman Schachter-Shalomi.  Reb Zalman was a long-time Boulder resident and the World Wisdom Chair at Naropa University.  He is sorely missed!

Boulder County Jews again showed their flexibility as a good crowd showed up two nights "early" at Winterskate in Louisville for a rescheduled "Chanukah on Ice" Tuesday night.

Chanukah Friday night is a magical time..it is a wonderful time to sit together with family and friends and enjoy a delicious Shabbos meal together.

Every year, the Boulder County Center for Judaism selects a member of the Boulder Jewish community whose volunteer work has lifted our community in important ways for the honor of lighting the Pearl Street Menorah at our annual menorah lighting event (Monday, December 19).

In the Torah there was a special Mitzvah in the year following the Sabbatical year of all men, women and children and even babies to gather in the temple and to hear the King read from the Torah to them. This is that year.
