Letter: Walk to Bring Hostages Home

Letter: Walk to Bring Hostages Home

Dear BJN readers –

Our local Run4TheirLives group walks every Sunday in support of the Hostages held in Gaza and their families.

And for many of us, there is the added value of walking for ourselves and each other. During the last few weeks, many people have spontaneously joined us as we walk along the Pearl Street mall. And we’ve been drawing more first-timers. Why? Because there is a certain power and pride, in their best sense, in fearlessly walking together as Jews, openly identifying and asserting our cause into the public space. And for those burdened with the day to day weight of this crisis, the mutual support of new friends and fellow walkers from across the Jewish spectrum – and non-Jews, too – helps lighten the load.

It’s been another tough week with the seeming collapse of negotiations, the stark reality of seeing the dingy, filthy, airless tunnel where the Six were confined and murdered, and more world condemnation of Israel’s pursuit of Hamas leadership deliberately embedded in the population. All the more reason that we will be out there again this Sunday, in memory of the Hostages who didn’t make it back alive, in support of those living whom we will not let the world forget, and for Us.

Please join our Run4TheirLIves group this and every Sunday until all the Hostages are home. Meet at 1:00 pm at 8th & Pearl, Boulder. No registration required.

And join our whatsapp group to stay informed. If they’re not all home, we’ll have activities on October 6-7.

See you Sunday –

Bruce Shaffer and Rachel Amaru
