Martin Cohn (Meir Tuvia ben Sholem HaCohen v’Hanna Sarah), father of Larry Cohn, died in Sarasota, FL on September 3rd, 2024, three days after his 99th birthday.
Martin was a man of keen intellect, unwavering integrity and strong faith, living both his personal and professional lives imbued with Torah values. Born in Hazleton, PA, he practiced law there for 57 years before retiring to Florida. He served as board member and chair of countless Jewish organizations and community nonprofits, none more meaningful than his tenure as chair of the board of the Jewish Publication Society during the publication of the Eitz Hayyim chumash. Undecided on graduation from college between being a lawyer or a rabbi, he chose the former as his vocation, Jewish thought and philosophy became his avocation.
Predeceased by his wife of 71 years, Elsie, and daughter Hanna, Martin is survived by 5 children, Larry (Robin Evans), Sandy (Rick Thau), Judy (David Gilberg), Joe (Amy Chosky) and Dave (Eve Collen), 9 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren, all of whom gave him immense pride.
Arrangements are being made now, and burial will likely take place on Thursday in Pennsylvania, and Larry will sit shiva on his return.
Details to follow.
May the neshama of Meir Tuvia ben Sholem HaCohen v’Hanna Sarah be at peace.
Hamakom y’nachem – blessings of strength and comfort to Larry and all the mourners.
Blessings,
Rabbi Marc
