Soon after October 7, 2023, Bruce Shaffer returned to Israel and has been volunteering to support evacuees from the North living in Jerusalem. He runs a photography workshop for adults to offer a creative outlet for those displaced. Bruce will share Israel’s war-torn northern border communities. He will be joined by resident evacuees who will share their stories.
On Wednesday, March 13 at 11 am MT, he will address the unsettled, uneasy, and untold lives of Israelis evacuated from the North. This story has been less reported on than the trauma inflicted upon southern Israel’s Gaza perimeter communities. Bruce will be joined by three evacuees – a working mother, a teenager, and an active reserve soldier – in conversation about their challenges and uncertainties as displaced persons in their own country. This will be an opportunity to understand the plight of thousands of northern Israelis driven from their homes by daily missiles launched from Lebanon, ever since October 7, 2023.
Bruce Shaffer is a photographer who divides his time between Boulder CO and Jerusalem. In Israel, Bruce leads Youth Photography Workshops for groups of combined Israeli and Palestinian students. His work has appeared in Ha’aretz, The Times of Israel, The Forward, and The Third Way film.
This is a free virtual program. Advance registration is recommended for all programs at the Boulder JCC. All programs are open to everyone of all or no religious affiliation.
