Learn to Bake Jewish Treats with JCC Denver Baking Classes This Fall

The Staenberg-Loup Jewish Community Center (JCC Denver) is hosting a series of baking classes for attendees to learn how to make Jewish foods including challah bread, Rosh Hashanah cakes for the Jewish New Year, Barbari and pita breads, and the sweet pastry called babka. Classses will be held in September, October and November. Information about the classes is below. 
Each class costs $77 to attend. Ingredients and instruction is provided. 

Attendees must be 18 years and older.

Challah Bread Baking Class on 9/22 and 9/29 from 5:30-8:30 p.m.: In this class you will learn how to make Challah, the most quintessential of Jewish breads and the centerpiece of the Shabbat and holiday table. Each participant will leave class with one baked loaf and one loaf ready to bake at home. We will also learn how to create multiple braids.

Rosh Hashanah Cakes Baking Class on 9/25 from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.: Sweets, especially those with apples and sweetened with honey, are favorites at Rosh Hashanah meals. Buying all the ingredients and preparing multiple cakes can be overwhelming. Come to our Rosh Hashanah cakes class our JCC Baker will help you prepare two cakes for your High Holiday table.

Barbari and Pita Breads Baking Class on 10/6 and 10/20 from 5:30-8:30 p.m.: In this class, you will learn to make; barbari, a beautiful Iranian flatbread, and pita, a Sephardic flatbread most of us know and love. We will also make hummus to enjoy along with the breads.

Babka Baking Class on 10/23 or 11/7 from 5:30-8:30 p.m.: Strands of sweet, eggy, buttery dough are stuffed, traditionally, with chocolate or cinnamon and then twisted together to make the classic swirl. Stuff your babka with these traditional fillings, or perhaps make modern twists with cheese filling or s’mores!
