Intergenerational Family Shabbat at Nevei Kodesh and Chanting for Hope

Intergenerational Family Shabbat at Nevei Kodesh and Chanting for Hope

Shabbat has become an intergenerational blessing for us at Nevei Kodesh. When we moved our family services online, we were not sure what to expect.  Our short family service, Shabbat Blessings and Songs, has become a space where community members without children as well as families attend together. We also have extended family, including grandparents or grandchildren, who join from across the country to celebrate Shabbat together with us.

Our family Shabbat is an opportunity for children to join, engage while wiggling around the room, lighting Shabbat candles with their families and even interacting by sharing gratitude statements with the group.  It is a time where everyone is welcome to a truly magical part of our week. Participants have shared that they never expected to enjoy being part of an intergenerational Shabbatt so much. We engage in prayers, connection, ritual and a short D’var Torah each week. Families are welcome to bring their Shabbat candles, challah and grape juice/wine or virtually enjoy ours. Shabbat is about connection, being part of a caring community, recognizing the familiar and honoring what it offers all of us – together. It is a beautiful and unique way to celebrate together and we welcome all others to join and feel part of this special time with us.

Please join us for our next Family Shabbat Service, this Friday, Aug. 7, 6pm to 6:45pm

Also coming this week at Nevei Kodesh:

Chanting in Hope: Wednesday, Aug. 12, 5:50 to 7 pm
The hard times go on and so do we, chanting and praying to maintain our inner calm and connect to our higher self.  In this circle, we use sacred verses from the Bible with prayerful melodies (mostly from Rabbi Shefa Gold), to ‘call’ God, and affirm our relationship with the Divine. Chanting is an uplifting practice that fills our hearts with joy and our bodies with healing light.  The event is free… Donations to Nevei Kodesh accepted.

About the leader: Ziva Moyal, is a graduate of Rabbi Shefa Gold’s Kol Zimra, Chanting Leaders Training, and has been using chanting as a way of self-healing and self-growth.
