On Tuesday, February 4 our speaker is Ellen Kowitt, presenting on “What’s Jewish About Jewish Genealogy.” Ellen is a veteran Jewish records researcher, professional genealogist, and leader in genealogy activities in Colorado and worldwide. Ellen’s talk will explore the values and traditions rooted in Judaism that might frame a family history project, establish identity as a group, build community, link Cohanim descent, document the Holocaust and pogroms, or identify genetic disease clusters. She is the Jewish Genealogist “on-call” in the Boulder JCC library on Tuesday nights where she is available to advise anyone on how to get started with their search.

On Thursday, February 20 Rabbi Lynne Goldsmith will be teaching on “Women in the Bible.” The male voice dominates the Jewish Biblical text, but the actions of the female characters in the Bible are pivotal to the narrative. Rabbi Goldsmith will explore the actions of several of these women and see how in the context of the time in which they lived, they changed history. Presented in partnership with Haver, Boulder Rabbinic Council. Rabbi Lynne Goldsmith is a Wedding Specialist and Conversion Coach with Adventure Judaism. She moved to Colorado from Alabama, after she retired from ten years of service as a pulpit rabbi. Rabbi Goldsmith received her ordination at HUC-JIR/Cincinnati.
