Professor Sam Boyd to Speak at Bonai Shalom for January’s First Friday

In recognition of starting the reading of the book of Exodus for this year on the first Shabbat in January, come join the Bonai Shalom community and guest speaker Professor Sam Boyd to discuss the Jewish departure from Egypt. We will cover this story’s imprint on both ancient and modern cultures as well as Moses’ divine encounter and receiving of the ten commandments at Sinai.

Sam Boyd, Ph.D. is an assistant professor of Religious and Jewish Studies at CU Boulder. Professor Boyd will explore the archaeological findings related to Exodus, as well as the religious traditions and early rabbinic commentaries. He will be sharing recent research on connections between literary and cultural traditions in the ancient Near East and the events in Exodus.

Services are at 6:00 pm, dinner at 7:15, and the talk around 8:00 pm. BYOB Kosher wine or Beer. Dinner is $18 per Bonai Shalom member, $21 per non-member, and $54 maximum per family. Please RSVP by January 3 here or by calling the office at 303-442-6605.
