Boulder JCC Exposes the Dark Side of ChocolateEveryone has heard about blood diamonds. Less well known is the dark side of chocolate: the abuse of child labor in the African cocoa fields.

Ilana Schatz, the founding director of Fair Trade Judaica, will be in town for the Boulder Jewish Festival, and will present a program focusing on child labor and trafficked children in the African cocoa-producing industry at the Boulder JCC on June 11 at 7:00 pm. A program of the BJCC’s Maimonides Wellness Center, Hazon, and Fair Trade Chocolate, the evening is co-sponsored by Tuv Ha’aretz, Bonai Shalom, the Har HaShem Gift Shop, and the Nevei Kodesh Religious School.

Bean of Affliction:  Chocolate, Child Labor and Fair Trade includes a screening and discussion of the new 45-minute documentary, “The Dark Side of Chocolate,” with an introduction by Rabbi Marc Soloway, who is on the national board of Hazon. Fair trade chocolate will be available for tasting and purchase.

Tickets $10 in advance, $12 at the door.
