Mayor Lights Menorah in Lafayette

Last Saturday night, after Shabbat, 50 or so members of the community turned out at Victory Camera, in Lafayette, for that town’s first community menorah lighting on night 8 of Chanukah 2012/5773.

Lafayette Mayor Carolyn Cutler was accorded the honor of lighting the giant 8-foot menorah, after Rabbi Gabriel Goldfeder of Aish Kodesh spoke and led the group in the candle-lighting prayers.  Rabbi Goldfeder mentioned the darkness and pain that was generated in Connecticut on Friday, and that while we can never completely defeat darkness, we are obligated to bring light whenever possible.

The party was hosted by Josh Cohen, owner of Victory Camera, and his wife Rachel, who made dozens of latkes this week for the event.  The giant menorah was provided by Chabad Lubavitch of Boulder County.
