Cuba Libre: Dinner, Dancing, Drinks and Discussion

Cuba Libre: Dinner, Dancing, Drinks and Discussion

If you have been hesitating about making a reservation for “Celebrating the Jews of Cuba,” you are in luck. Menorah has extended the deadline for reservations to Thursday at 5 pm. Attendance is by advance registration only, and no tickets will be sold at the door.

Need a reason to come?

How about a smoking hot Havana band? Charanga Siboney is a quartet specializing in performing the 1940’s style of Cuban dance music, the Danzon. Based in Denver, the all-star group consists of top musicians in the local salsa and world music arenas: Kailin Yong (violin), Victor Mestas (piano), Armando Santoyo (bass) and Brett Bowen (percussion).

The concert by Charanga Siboney that will finish off the evening, with dance instruction by Judy Kreith, is only one reason to take a tropical vacation.

Cuba Libre: Dinner, Dancing, Drinks and Discussion

A full-course homemade Cuban meal is another. Prepared by Rena Segal and Paula Erez, sisters who grew up in Cuba, with assistance by our master chef Carlos Zarur, the dinner begins with tostones and Sangria, and includes a vegetarian picadillo, rice, beans and plantains. After dinner, flan and rum drinks will be served.

Before dinner, enjoy a short film about the Jews of Cuba, followed by a discussion led by Carlos Zarur about Cuba’s rich history of Jewish life, which began shortly after the  expulsion from Spain in 1492.

This lively evening begins at 6 pm on Saturday, Nov 10, at the Boulder JCC. Tickets are $36. https://boulderjcc.wufoo.com/forms/menorah-celebrating-the-jews-of-cuba/
