On November 8-12, I will participate in my 22st consecutive year with ALYN Hospital Wheels of Love Bike Ride for the rehabilitation of the children of ALYN Hospital. To say this past year has been difficult for me to navigate, without Joe by my side, is quite the understatement. Since Joe passed away last June, I have become dedicated, even more than the 21 years before, to support this very important cause. I will volunteer with the support team for the off-road group of riders. These are my people, and they have given me so much love and encouragement through my grief.
I am committed, as always, to raise money to help the hospital continue their amazing programs for the children of ALYN. As the only pediatric and adolescent rehabilitation center in Israel, it services victims of terrorist attacks and car accidents, children born with congenital and inherited disorders, head trauma, elective surgery, cancer and burns and injuries sustained in domestic accidents. The dedicated staff at ALYN treats thousands of youths annually, both Jewish and Arab alike.
Very sadly, due to the war in Israel for over 3 years, many more children are in need of ALYN’s services. Last year the ride had a beautiful tribute in Joe’s memory at the beginning of the final program. If you missed it you can view it here:
The other wonderful highlight last year, was Menachem, Evan and Lev, riding the final day into the hospital with the ALYN riders. This was so special for me, so I wouldn’t be devastated by not seeing Joe cross the finish line.
Such challenges and miracles cost money. Every year ALYN needs to raise millions of dollars just to close the gap between the actual cost of care and the amount reimbursed by referring sources. Last year’s participants managed to raise over $2 million on behalf of ALYN. This is not a “Jewish” cause. It is a “Global” cause. All children are treated in this hospital, and the technologies that are developed to give the children of ALYN a better quality of life, are shared with other children’s hospitals worldwide.
Over the past 21 years, Team Velojews has raised over $750,000, thanks to our very generous family, friends and colleagues. This year, our team hopes to continue helping the worthwhile work of ALYN, so we need your help. Would you please make a donation to help us meet our goal and honor Joe’s memory?
