Rose Community Foundation recently named Karli Sherwinter as Director of Collaborative Philanthropy. In this role, Karli leads the Foundation’s giving circle initiatives and other collaborative-giving programs – enhancing the culture of philanthropy in our region. A skilled facilitator and relationship builder, Karli brings extensive experience designing and leading programs that foster community engagement, develop leadership and connect people around a common purpose.
Karli’s career spans Jewish communal organizations in the United States and internationally, with expertise in philanthropy, donor engagement, program development and community-building. Most recently, she led philanthropic engagement efforts for Congregation Bonai Shalom’s capital campaign and served as co-interim executive director during a period of organizational transition. Prior to that, she directed resource development for Aloney Yitzchak Youth Village in Israel, cultivating relationships with donors and connecting supporters to the organization’s mission of serving vulnerable youth. Earlier in her career, Karli managed family engagement initiatives at the Boulder JCC, creating programs that connected families across diverse backgrounds and experiences.
Throughout her work, Karli has been guided by her belief in the power of relationships, thoughtful dialogue and collaborative action to strengthen communities. Her experience as a Qi Gong instructor, along with training in trauma-informed practice and nonviolent communication, informs her approach to facilitation and group leadership.
Originally from Cincinnati, Ohio, Karli holds a master’s degree in political science from Washington University in St. Louis, where she was an Olin Fellow, and a bachelor’s degree in international affairs and Japanese from the University of Colorado Boulder. She is a Fulbright Scholar and has served in a variety of leadership and volunteer roles within the Jewish community. Karli lives in Boulder with her family and enjoys spending time reading, practicing Iyengar yoga, and walking the trails.
