Dear editor:
I disagree with Don Koplen. (“Jewish Dilemma” Boulder Jewish News March 17, 2026.) Operation Epic Fury is not Trump’s war or Netanyahu’s war. It is Iran’s war.
Iran has been threatening to “wipe Israel off the map” for decades. And the threat was not empty rhetoric. Iran has been building missiles and enriching uranium to make nuclear weapons. It has also funded terrorist groups such as Hamas and Hezbollah which have attacked Israeli civilians and American troops stationed in the Middle East.
As was the case in the Twelve Day War, aimed at preventing Iran from becoming a Nuclear Power, America and Israel are striking strategic targets while Iran and its proxies target civilians. In fact, Major John Spencer, head of Urban Warfare Studies in West Point’s Modern Warfare Institute, has predicted that Epic Fury may well bring real peace to the Middle East.
An Israel that fights (fairly and successfully) deserves our support as the Jewish home (a place that will not close its doors to Jews who need a safe place to live). This does not mean that the Jews living in their homeland will never come under attack. In fact, the most important thing about Israel as the Jews’ home is that Israel is capable of responding to attempts to destroy the Jewish state and annihilate its people.
