Column: The Spectacle of China and Russia Scolding Israel…Again

Who will object to such lofty goals as “to achieve lasting peace” and correcting a “historical injustice?”

No, they were not talking about ending their threat to gobble up Taiwan or ending their war against Ukraine. The Chinese and Russian ambassadors to the United Nations were addressing issues in Israel’s conflict with the Arabs, who call themselves Palestinians, during another special session on Wednesday called by the U.N. Security Council.

There are credible concerns that have been hashed out about Israel’s activities, and the Security Council persisted in hashing them out on Wednesday. As usual, they singled out Israel as the world’s two most dominant tyrannies piled on.

I wonder: How would their words against Israel apply to China and Russia?

Will China ever cease “reject(ing) and deny(ing)” a two-state solution? Can’t China and Taiwan exist side by side “to achieve lasting peace?”, to quote Chinese ambassador Fu Cong. Or Hong Kong, for that matter.

Will China ever “strongly condemn such acts” as tossing Uyghur Muslims into concentration camps or jailing Hong Kong citizens who forget that they no longer have freedom of speech?” Why do Chinese “leaders” need to “be protected?”

My president, Vladimir Putin, insists on “speaking of the need to kill 30 to 40 Ukrainians each day,” Russian Ambassador Vasily Nebenzya tells us. “No, my mistake. He said 130 Ukrainians.”

“Oh yes, our invasive activity is breaking all records,” added Nebenzya. “Russia is imposing all kinds of sweeping restrictions upon Ukrainians.”

What’s more, he asserted, “Russia has no intention of withdrawing from Ukraine. Let them obey the voices of oppression. An independent state of Ukraine with Moscow as its capital? Keep dreaming.”

Nebenzya noted that Russia has no intention of correcting a “historical injustice.”

Make no mistake. I do not give Israel a free pass. The government has made serious mistakes. Yet it is absurd to allow the world’s two most massive bullies a forum to castigate Israel.

Ed Kass ("Opinion: Needed Now. Ometz Lev" 9/3/26 BJN) is either ignorant of or willfully blind to the fact that all "Jewish settlements" in Judea and Samaria are totally consistent with Article 80 of the United Nations Charter, the controlling international law concerning Israel.

  1. The writing sounds bigoted & immature from the get-go. So, the Palestinians are “Arabs” ?? Then, is that what they also call all the Jewish “settlers” in Palestine? i.e.: those Jewish settlers who have stolen the “Arabs'” homes….
