Sylvain Hayoun was born and raised in Tunisia from a Sephardic mother and father, and left at the age of 16. The presence of Jews in Tunisia extends for 2000 years. Sylvain will discuss his life as a Sephardic Jew in Tunisia, until he and his family fled the country in 1967, along with thousands of other Jews.
Almost a million Jews experienced similar persecution, leaving different Arabic countries after centuries of ancestry within their respective countries. This is the story of Sylvain’s journey from Tunisia to Paris, to his Aliyah in Boulder.
Bagel schmooze included with Tunisian baklava and mint tea.
