In telling us that many people have unfairly judged Israel’s actions in Gaza, Bruce Ticker notes that Yassir Arafat turned down an Israeli offer that would have led to the establishment of a Palestinian state decades ago. (“Column: A Bridge to Anti-Israel Hypocrisy” boulderjewishnews.org August 14, 2025) But that missed opportunity was certainly not the only or the last proposal that the Palestinians rejected or failed to bring to fruition. Case in point – Israel removed all Israeli residents and security personnel from Gaza in 2005, even removing the bodies of Jews who were buried there. Furthermore, American Jews purchased state-of-the-art greenhouses from the Israeli evacuees and gifted the greenhouses to the Palestinians to jump-start their economy, in a classic example of the thought, “Be nice to others and they will be nice to you.”
Sadly, we know what happened. The greenhouses were quickly destroyed. And, when the US insisted that Hamas be allowed to participate in legislative elections, Hamas defeated the rival Fatah party and proceeded to run off or murder the members of the Opposition.
In addition, when Israel attempted to prevent the entrance of war materiel to Gaza, Hamas announced that an Israeli blockade prevented Hamas from developing the enclave’s economy. Yet Hamas managed to spend $1,000,000,000 building an extensive network of terror tunnels, with entrances connected to hospitals, schools, mosques, businesses, and residences in a manner deliberately aimed at guaranteeing that Israel could not respond to Hamas’ attacks on Israel without killing or injuring Gazan non-combatants despite Israel’s exemplary efforts to avoid doing so.
Israel is fighting a just war, working to prevent Hamas from fulfilling its vow (cheered by Gazans) to inflict 1,000 October 7’s on Israel. Military experts have praised the IDF as the most moral army in the world.

So why is Israel being accused of genocide? Israel’s enemies have many votes in the UN and oil-rich Arab nations have donated huge amounts of money to American universities, with effects on both education and journalism.
