Sunday, August 11th, marks the 310th day since 240 hostages were kidnapped from Israel and taken to Gaza. 120 of them, some of whom are American citizens, still remain captive there. Please – join us this Sunday to walk for all those still held hostage. The world cannot forget. Please bring posters and wear red.
The local Boulder chapter of Run For Their Lives (part of the larger Bring Them Home Now initiative) has been walking in downtown Boulder every week. There are multiple groups like ours meeting internationally and across US cities (including a local Denver chapter).
Our group has about 220 members, and has not missed a walk since Thanksgiving Weekend 2023. Co- leads include Gali Beh and Deborah Greene, who graciously lead the walks when I’m out of town (as I am most of this summer). Bruce Shaffer has also led the walk, and brings us regular updates from Israel, especially since he has been taking photos for the Hostages and Missing Persons Forum.
This past week, while in Jerusalem, I received a text from my cousin here of our walk in Boulder within minutes of it ending. An Israeli friend of Jon Polin’s (Hersh’s dad) walked with the Boulder group, and sent it on to his neighborhood Jerusalem WhatsApp group (my cousin is a neighbor to the Goldberg-Polin’s, so is in the group). It was a quite beautiful experience to see how far news of our local Boulder walk traveled, and to see that it has an impact. Jon Polin texted back to his friend thanking him for sharing news of Run For Their Lives. I think it was very meaningful to the Boulder group to have that connection.
Our group meets at 1 pm on the corner of Pearl & 8th and walks the length of the Pearl Street Mall and back, stopping at the courthouse for a brief video that the leads of Run For Their Lives include in their weekly recap. The goal is to share the message far and wide (specifically via social media) that the hostages have not been forgotten. This is not a protest; it is a peaceful walk to show solidarity with the hostages and their families, and a plea for their release.
When: Sunday, August 11th at 1 pm
Meet-up: Corner of Pearl & 8th Street
