On June 9-13 Israeli NGO, “Bartali – Youth in Movement” (BYIM) will hold for the fourth time the “Hero’s Path”, a 4-day ride from Florence to Assisi, Italy, dedicated to raising funds for rehabilitating the youth affected by the events of October 7.
This journey attracts an intimate group of people with a strong passion for long-distance cycling, who share with us the same values that motivated Gino Bartali.
Righteous Among the Nations, Gino Bartali, was a professional Italian cyclist who courageously risked his life to save hundreds of Jews he never met during WWII. He used to hide fake documents in the frame of his bike and exploit his fame and popularity to move freely throughout Italy, delivering the documents to the relevant authorities. Bartali was known worldwide for his sporting achievements, yet despite his heroic actions during the war, he never spoke about it to anyone.
BYIM is dedicated to commemorating his legacy and this journey recreates his rides along Tuscany and Umbria while helping save the lives of hundreds of Jews.

About the program:
Bartali – Youth in Movement has been operating a network of cycling centers for at-risk youth aged 13 to 18 in youth villages, boarding schools, and rehabilitation centers in Israel since 2019. These centers strive to enable youth who have encountered life challenges to regain control over their lives, find a sense of belonging, establish a growth mindset, and develop ambitiousness through long-distance cycling. Up until October 7th, 2023, 11 such cycling centers were established throughout the country.
The resilience plan for the communities of the Western Negev, which was planned and implemented by Bartali—Youth in Movement—was established immediately after the tragic events of October 7th. It supports these communities long-term through the establishment of youth cycling groups as sources of routine and support for the young people.
